3 July - 12 August 2019 at the Dharamkot Centre, Dharamsala
9 March - 19 April 2020 at the Himalaya Shanti Ashram – our Eco Retreat for Yoga, Meditation and Healing
If you want to be a Yoga Teacher who can teach and help anyone regardless of age, experience or physical condition then this is the Teachers Training Course for you. The Sharat Arora Yoga Method is a unique evolution of the BKS Iyengar tradition that is designed to heal the human body on every level. The course is not only about knowing all the details of the Method, but being able to convey it to others and having enough practical expertise to guide them on the physical, mental and energetic level. It is designed for motivated practitioners who wish to make the spiritual path of Yoga their way of life and would like to share it with others.
The 320H Teachers Training Course (TTC) is a six to seven week long, rigorous training. The prerequisite for attending the course is three 5-Day Courses at one of our centres in Arambol, Goa or Dharamkot. However, for those who are new to the practice and who do not have time for the three weeks beforehand we offer a special 9-Day Course after which you will be fully prepared for the Immersion and Teachers Training Courses. Anyone who is coming back to us after a break from regular practice, i.e. if your 5-Day Courses were more than 3 months prior to the course starts, or if they were within 3 months and you have NOT sustained a regular self-practice, then you must attend the final two days of the 9-Day Course as a Weekend Refresher Course or a regular 5-day course in Dharamkot or Goa.
The course takes place at the Himalaya Shanti Ashram. Our beautiful and isolated location enhances a deeper and more focused practice and facilitates the journey inwards. Days off can be spent in contemplation of nature and swimming in the river. Our Organic Permaculture farm will provide much of your daily food to nourish you in the best way possible.
The first part of the TTC is comprised of the 3 weeks of the 160H Immersion Course into the Sharat Arora Yoga Method. This is essential as a prerequisite as it forms the practicum element of the course, before the progression to the theoretical and pedagogical elements in the second three weeks. Please note that the Yoga Immersion Course will be held in silence. In the Yoga Immersion Course, you will learn the Method from the inside out, cultivating a deep self-awareness from the intensive practice of Asanas, Meditation, Pranayama and Relaxation.
During the three weeks of the TTC you will learn to teach with presence and from your own lived bodily experience. Daily early morning Self-Practice will rejuvenate and prepare you for the day ahead. The practice will be independent but daily suggestions will be offered as to the order and sequence. These will later be discussed in the afternoon session as part of your training about sequencing beyond the 5-day courses.
The morning classes with Master Yoga Teacher Sharat Arora will cover the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching, in depth instruction and discussion of the Asanas and the Method, how to conduct Body Diagnosis and later in the course there will be time for you to practise your teaching abilities through Asana demonstration. The afternoon sessions will be conducted by one of the trained teachers of the Sharat Arora Yoga Method. During the first 3 sessions you will watch days 1-3 of the introductory 5-Day Course as conducted by Sharat
Arora at the HIYC and be guided to answer questions about the evolution of the Method and poses for new students. Thereafter the sessions will involve in depth practical demonstrations about the use and function of props, guided corrections classes, applying the Body Diagnosis technique, special sessions on anatomy and physiology and more chances for you to teach Asanas under supervision of the trained teacher.
During the course you will learn:
- Sequencing of the both the HIYC 5-Day Courses and special or focused classes as you might teach away from the HIYC
- Demonstration of Asanas, including modifications for all body types, injuries, ailments etc
- The use of props and their modification and application for the individual’s needs

You will also be invited to watch and assist Master Yoga Teacher Sharat Arora in the Yoga Therapy Courses and so develop practical skills in adjusting the poses to deal with particular misalignments, injuries and diseases, both physical and mental. Yoga Therapy is a fundamental part of our method at every level and so it is highly advisable that you attend at least one such course.
